Her Jer side knew it; it reminded her of a place to which she’d never been, a place that often called to her from random things in her life: the way her sister’s hair moved as though it were floating, her father’s slightly translucent skin, the sudden surge of happiness that she somehow knew was her mother’s, even though she was halfway across the globe, running track in a competition where no one knew what she truly was.
